Roberto González, winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, joins the Freightliner Legends Cup in the Mexico GP


The current winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 category, the Mexican Roberto González, will take part in the activities of the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE LA CIUDAD DE MEXICO 2022 Presented by Heineken at confirm their participation in the Freightliner Legends Cup for the Super Cup, which will be held at the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome from October 28 to 30.


 Roberto González is only the third Mexican winner of a category in the 24 Hours of Le Mans – crowned after Pedro Rodríguez and Ricardo González –, which makes him a true legend of national motorsports.


 González was a key player in the growth of the Mexican fans in the early years of the millennium with the Indy-type series (CART), where he took part in the Dale Coyne Racing, Herdez Competition and PKV Racing teams. And now he will fight once again against old rivals such as Adrián Fernández, Paul Tracy, Oriol Servià, Michel Jourdain Jr., Max Papis, Mario Domínguez, Bruno Junqueira, Alex Tagliani, Luis Díaz and Mark Blundell, in the mighty V8-powered GTM cars. of Super Cup.


 The Mexican driver began his international career in the European Formula Chrysler in 2001 and then jumped to the World Series by Nissan in 2002. His arrival at CART took place in 2003, where he was able to compete both in the Parque Fundidora track, in Monterrey, and at the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome, in Mexico City, during 2004.


 After a long hiatus he returned to racing in 2012 in the American Le Mans Series, competing in dates such as the 12 Hours of Sebring at Laguna Seca and Road America, alongside Bruno Junqueira. It was in 2016 when he joined the World Endurance Championship (WEC) on the Mexican date and it was in the LMP2 where his passion was reborn.


 With the confirmation of Roberto González in this support race, there are already two winners of the 24 Hours of Le Mans who will participate in the Freightliner Legends Cup, since Mark Blundell also won the competition at the La Sarthe circuit in 1992.
