Max Verstappen achieved his third victory in sprint races by winning the second of this modality in the 2022 Formula 1 season at the Austrian Grand Prix, in a competition where Sergio Pérez came back to finish fifth.

The race started in a bit of chaos with two incidents that forced one lap to be dropped from the agreed 24. The first when Fernando Alonso's Alpine was removed from the grid for still wearing the tire warmers, and then the start was completely aborted when Guanyu Zhou's Alfa Romeo was stopped.

When the traffic lights finally went out, the excitement focused on the Ferraris. Charles Leclerc tried to overtake poleman Max Verstappen, but this contest was used by Carlos Sainz to take second position by a few meters before the Monegasque regained it

This little battle allowed the championship leader and Red Bull Racing driver to break away.
